What is Lumacept™?
Lumacept™ is a coatings technology developed for use with UV-C disinfection devices. Standard paint and wall coverings absorb 93-97% of the invisible germicidal UV-C light. Surfaces not in direct “line-of-sight” of the UV-C device are shadowed, resulting in less disinfection and very long disinfection times. The UV-C light that reaches shadowed areas has to reflect off surfaces like walls and ceilings, and with each bounce most of the remaining UV-C light is absorbed, leaving almost nothing for the shadows. With patent pending Lumacept™ germicidal UV-C remains, even after multiple bounces, to reach the nooks and crannies where germs can hide.
The Benefits of Lumacept™
Rapid Disinfection: In a patient room with walls painted with Lumacept™ where UV-C disinfection times were based on the time needed to treat the shadowed areas**, Lumacept™ has been shown* to reduce disinfection times by 80% without any loss in disinfection effectiveness! Adding Lumacept™ to the ceiling and other surfaces further reduced disinfection times.
Better Disinfection: In rooms painted with Lumacept™ where UV-C disinfection times are not reduced, the surfaces not in line-of-site of the UV-C device will see an average of 14 times more UV-C light as the same shadowed surfaces in a room without Lumacept™.

** Some UV devices have recommended treatment times which are calculated for only the direct line-of-sight surfaces and do not take into account the necessary time to treat the shadows.
